ALWAR TOUR

Alwar is well connected to prominent locations in and around Rajasthan and the different place in India. Regular bus services link Alwar with key destinations in Rajasthan and Delhi. Travel to Rajasthan takes you to Alwar, popularly known as the Tiger Gate of Rajasthan. The city is nestled on a cluster of the Aravalli hills. Dating back to the Mahabharata period, Alwar was once a Rajput state and formerly known as Mewat. Its proximity to the imperial Delhi always put the state vulnerable to outside attack. However, its inhabitants put up valiant efforts to safeguard its prestige and glory. They in fact formed a group in 12th and 13th centuries and raided even Delhi. They were finally suppressed by Sultan Bulban (1267 A.D - 1287 A.D) of the Slave Dynasty and the state was brought under the control of Delhi Sultanate.

However, Maharaja Pratap Singh, a Kuchhwaha Rajput, succeeded in wresting Alwar from the Muslim control in 1771 A.D. and founded a principality of his own. Besides a rich past the city is dotted with many beautiful lakes and picturesque surroundings that are worth watching on travel to Alwar.
